Our Origin

Haywood Mushrooms began as a scientific exploration into fungal cultivation and plant–microbe interactions, led by plant pathology researcher Dr. Anna Thomas.

Early experiments conducted in Cary, North Carolina focused on sterile culture development, strain selection, and understanding how fungal genetics translate into reliable mushroom production.

"Today, those laboratory foundations are expanding toward a dedicated spawn and cultivation operation at our facility in Moncure, North Carolina".

Built on Plant Pathology & Fungal Science

Our approach to mushroom spawn production is grounded in professional training in plant pathology and years of experience studying fungi and plant–microbe interactions.

We apply rigorous sterile technique, strain selection, and quality control to ensure growers receive reliable cultures and consistent results. By leveraging a scientific foundation, we minimize contamination risks and maximize biological vigor.
